Group Meeting - 4.1.15

On Sunday 4th January we had another of our annual group meetings, taking place at moresby hall from 4 to 6. At this meeting we did a number of activities including team building exercised and a question and answer session with former members of the Tanzania Link. The meeting started with team building which was a lot of fun and really brought the teams closer together. After which we were asked to come up with problems concerning the inward and outward visit, and think of solutions to them. We then discussed fundraising which some students have done since the last meeting including some students who took part in the New Years dip in Whitehaven and St Bees. The last part of the meeting was a question and answer session with 4 former students of Tanzanian Link, many of whom have hosted Tanzanian's and have been to Tanzania. With a wide variety of questions which ranged from how to stop feelings of home sickness to how long is the flight.

Elizabeth Ndlolia

I've just had some sad news from Patrick in Tanzania - his Mother, Elizabeth Ndlolia, passed away yesterday. Pole sana Patrick, many people in the Link will miss her. I have so many memories of good times we spent together. She will live on in our hearts.

Peter Watson

We feel it appropriate to comment on the recent news of Peter Watson.

It is a great shame and a sudden loss to the local community.

Peter (through E2D) and personally supported the Link for many years. As well as through the printed word they gave a substantial donation for Kinsondela electrification. We also get regular donations from E2D.

He was a pillar of the community and he will be missed be all who knew him.

Singing

When looking through the songbook on Sunday we decided to recap over the Tanzanian songs and show Joe what he had missed out on. We sang Natambeya, Maria, and all the other songs we've been thought by the group and the Tanzanians themselves. It was clear some people needed some work on their lyrics and tuning!

Visa Information

On Sunday morning, after breakfast and while we were waiting for our parents to pick us up, we were given the information about visas. Don gave us all the information we needed to complete the visa application and we were later given the visa application form which allows us to receive the visa for our visit.

We were all excited about receiving this information as it takes us one step closer to the trip to Tanzania and we’re all looking forward to it!

Claire.
